Every designer at one point or another has had a drapery nightmare, and although they may be able to laugh about it now, the level of frustration it caused can still be remembered; especially if you had to dip into your own pocket to finish the project. So with the lessons learned, and a story to tell, most designers have a love-hate relationship with draperies.
Drapery by Amanda Burdge
Until recently, most ready-made draperies available on the market were simply unacceptable for most medium to high end homes. With minimal stitching, low deniers, and commonly used textiles they were hardly a designers dream. So if custom just isn't an option and you don't want chintzy drapes from the big box store, what can you do?
Buy quality ready-mades.

One of my favorite sources for semi-custom, (A.K.A Drapery out-of-a-box) is The Silk Trading Company, in Los Angeles. Internationally known and recognized, The Silk Trading Company has become one of the top fabric manufacturers in the business, providing consumers and designers with fine silks, linens, wools and cotton textiles. In my opinion, The Silk Trading Company's semi-custom line is a driving force for designers and homeowners who crave quality product and style, at an incredible price.

Need something more custom than the drapery out-of-a-box? Not a problem. The Silk Trading Company has a custom drapery workroom, and hundreds of fabrics by the yard, for which they are known for to make any thing you need or want.

Along with their fabulous drapery programs they also have bedding, pillows and drapery hardware to choose from! I have worked with them personally for many years, and have them in my own home. They truly are the closest thing to custom, and the silks are to die for.
And on a side note, they are having a huge SALE on several of their ready-made draperies, and signature textiles, click here to see more.

Dear Amanda, It seems that you know all of my interior home woes...I have ugly blinds that need to be pitched...so painful to watch them sometimes! Hope you have a great September!

Great advice! I have wasted much time browsing their website. We have been here 3 years and I am already itching to redo the entire house. xo
ReplyDeleteI admire what you do! We are building a little home and I lay awake at night because I am clueless! ( :
ReplyDeleteWhy do we do that to ourselves?! A decade goes by and we realize how much we have neglected ourselves! Not anymore! We need to bring our pretty back!
Have a pretty day!

The publicist loves silk. The problem is so do the farm cats' claws.
ReplyDeleteThat first image of your drapery is so lovely! I'll be facing my own drapery nightmare soon, so this is timely to see - thank you!
ReplyDeleteI have them and their samples as a resource, too, Amanda! Love this as an option. I found a couple of others whose websites I keep handy {just in case}. It's always window treatments that are mentioned when I'm on a consult. Even if I'm not there for the window treatments!
ReplyDeleteI can so relate to drapery woes. I actually just placed an order for a new set of draperies(custom made). Custom made is the route i have taken to dress my windows because what's on the mass market simply will not do.
ReplyDeleteGreat information and source. No one thinks about this until too late! Great post Amanda.

Very good to know!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! I have ready-made drapes from Silk Trading Co. in my dining room. Got them at Home Expo years ago at a great price. Still love em!
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived closer to you so I could end your drapery woes ! ;)
ReplyDeleteEver since I took an estimating class during my interior design days, I am still traumatized over anything curtain related. Looking at the wrecked curtains in my living room makes me realize I'm going to have to get over this. Also, clients ask me about curtains even though I'm just there for color design, so I appreciate the info!;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!
ReplyDeletelove the tip, thank you darling
ReplyDeleteAmanda, love these time saving/money saving tips!!! I'm your newest follower!!!
