May I make a Comment?

A few weeks ago, (June first to be exact), I started a little experiment. Nothing scientific,
(my days of playing doctor are O-V-E-R) but the goal (I like goals, makes me feel IMPORTANT and SPECIAL,) was to visit 50, give or take, blogs a day. My experiment was to benefit both parties. I would learn all about these new fabulous blogs, leave a little bloggy comment love and in return I too would be the proud recipient of comment bloggy love. Everybody wins, right? WRONG! What did my research reveal? That my friends in bloggy land couldn't quite get the cargo across the river in time for dinner. Informally, LIMP, FLACCID, NEGLECTFUL SLACKERS!!

DAY 1. I visited 53 blogs. My diligent, tireless overzealous fingers clicking, tapping and typing away. Leaving kind thoughts of encouragement, happy notes of wisdom, and pure unadulterated laughter. Excited to see MY deserving notes of wisdom, encouragement and unadulterated laughter I waited. AND waited,.... and then waited more. Now dont get me wrong I have some very faithful, devoted, steadfast and dependable bloggy friends. Without fail they will come to my rescue and prove to me that their is in fact LIFE OUT THERE. And to you my loyal friends I send my deepest and most sincere genuine bloggy love. (hugs)Without you I would be lost, lonely and umimportant. Words a designer must never hear!!! But for the rest of you? You are a bunch of no good, negligent sloths. Yup I said it! You ought to be a shamed of your self. Calling yourself a blogger. Take, take, take. Like theifs in the night you embezzle, pick pocket and snacth up every comment with nothing in return. Crooks! TSK,TSK,!

By my third day I had successfully met my goal. Roughly 50 comments. And might I add, this
is time of which I should be, designing, implementing, and selling; so I can keep a roof over
my head, food on my table, and focus my PRECIOUS and VALUABLE time on TARGET!
BUT NOOOOOOO. I continued tirelessly clicking, tapping and typing away so unselfishly like a taskmaster leaving priceless bloggy comment love, with no love in return. Do you realize it is like leaving gold on the table? These gifts so prized and valued. They are not easy to come by nor should they be taken lightly. They must be earned, not stolen. How can you find yourself WORTHY of such a prized ingredient that is the fundamental component of any blogs success? And I thought I was displaying arrogant and boastful behavior!

After a week I triumphantly conquered my goal, even leaving 103 comments on one of my days. To my dissatisfaction, I received 14 in return. 14 people!!!! At least on the days I left 50 I received 21-27 but 14!!! This is failure, in epoch proportions. This is not your finest hour. Not mine either. I could have been doing something important like washing my hair, cleaning my feet, or designing a damn accessory for TARGET. Clearly, Im a very busy person! But for those of you who dont know and never had a Grandma to teach you proper etiquette, the world works like this, its really quite simple; give and you shall receive. Waiting,....(crickets)..... waiting,.....(crickets).... waiting some more. There are not many rules in Bloggy land. But I will not tolerate this egocentric, self-serving, thoughtless, inconsiderate, greedy, mean and selfish behavior!! Informally, LIMP, FLACCID, NEGLECTFUL SLACKERS!! And while you run off to get a pedicure, get your grocery shopping done, and pay your bills, Im typing, clicking, and tapping away leaving words of encouragement, wisdom and laughter. Im a designer for Gods sake, Im VERY busy doing VERY important things. Must I go out and seek comment love with nothing in return? Can't you see the DESIGNER flag flying high? The big designer badge on my chest? I have needs people! I cannot get to TARGET if I am spending my days seeking support to achieve my DESERVED fundamental ingredient to bloggy success. I need to focus. I need encouraging, cultivating, stimulating support, and let me tell you, I have VERY high expectations. You better hope on the love of GOD, and nature herself you don't disappoint me. My knee jerk reaction to this precarious performance is to throw you to the vermin!!

It is my destiny to do and be something great. What can I say? It's a gift, I know. ( Never mind the fact that this awesomeness I call pure genius has gone to waste up until now; but that is totally besides the point) I see this as a minor speed bump in the road. A time that GOD has bestowed upon me to grant me an offering of donated humbleness. Unlike my bloggy slackers I will take this titanic size gift, cherish it, hold it dear to my heart, and in return give back something of true greatness. 1. Well crap, I thought I was on the good list until I scrolled through and realized I had missed the last three posts! The naughty list it is for me then, darn it!

I did feed the fish, does that count?!?!

  2. I felt so chastised...then I realized I've commented on every one of your posts since the first comment you left for me. And. Um. I can't say the same for comments received...

I'm not gonna make an issue of it though. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. Sometimes you're interested, sometimes you're not.

Maybe I should be taking it more personally, given your thoughts on the matter!

  3. Hi, and I apologize for my absence...I have been out of town helping family move and then again with family on vacation. Three fingers standing up for the girl scout promise that I will be a much better bloggy friend! Please don't lose faith!

  6. Hi, just stopping by to say thank you for commenting on my blog. They are always appreciated!

Ah..I know how you feel. I might not always get to it the same day or if things are busy I have been known to miss a return comment or two (shame on me!) but I really do try to at least give a return comment to bloggers that are kind enough to take the time to comment on my blog. I mean come on, I blog about goats! LOL I know not everyone finds goats as fascinating, hilarious and cute as I do. (They have obviously never met a goat and certainly not one as cute as mine) Sooo the fact that these non-goaty people took the time to comment on my blog really means a lot to me! That is why I am here! ;-) I do try to return the favor. High speed internet helps!

Sometimes I wonder though, just what is not getting done in my life while I am blogging. I am clearly addicted. There just is not enough time in the day!

  7. Ooops, I see that I am one of the naughty girls who didn't reply to your comment last week :O(

I usually do; HONEST! It's just with the 4,000 mile move back to the UK to organise I am barely able to post at the moment...anyway enough of the excuses, everyone wants to feel loved, I get that.

So I am sending much love your way; wishing you a comment filled week.

  8. Hi, thanks for stopping by. I SOOOO know how you feel. Except like Lee, I am looking for followers, massive amounts of them. Well maybe not too massive, because that would mean even more returned comments. AHHH...the life of a blogger is very full and complicated. Loved the post. I'll follow you if you follow me. And congrats on being back in school :)

  9. It's true. Nobody wants a one-way bloggy relationship. There are certain bloggers who never comment back, no matter how much you comment. There are others who are faithful readers and commenters.

I don't think one can expect to grow their blog if they don't reciprocate what they're getting. I just like the friendships that build from exchanging comments!

  10. It's all a give and take, I suppose. The reason we're SITStas is because we want a little comment love.

    Here's some.

    Thanks for stopping by de-comp!

  11. Wow, what an odd day for you to visit my blog and I find this on your blog.
Thanks for stopping by, yes my kids still like to bowl, I find it tiresome, but I'm trying to be a good mom.
Blog love is strange........and you just have to find the right fit in blogland.
I'm personally overjoyed at 8+ comments a day, it's not quantity to me, it's quality. I've been blessed with some fun followers, and following them makes it fun for us all.
I hope your day got better!

  13. I think you have a great blog and are a talented designer but I noticed I was getting some oddly generic comments from you lately. Than I was on some other blogs and noticed you left the same comments on their blogs. I felt cheated. Could a quality blogger be spamming?!!
It's true I haven't been to your blog in a few days. I finally am able to pay a visit and find words like "egocentric, self-serving, thoughtless, inconsiderate, greedy, mean and selfish! Informally, LIMP, FLACCID, NEGLECTFUL SLACKERS!!" I feel scorned
But no worries I still love your blog and will comment whenever I can:)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment!

  21. I so know what you are talking about! Althogth I have not documented my findings they are probably pretty close to yours. I have left countless comments on other's blogs only to get nothing back in return. Maybe there should be Blog-equette school?

  23. LOL! I feel that way sometimes too. But it's summertime and many people blog less and/or are away. I always, always, always return the bloggy love.

As long as my internet is up. But that's a whole other rant....

  26. Hi,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am sorry that I didn't respond back until today, I had a class last night and didn't get home until late.
My toe is much better. Thank heavens! I totally relate to checking the shoes, I sometimes do that in fear of a black widow hiding in them. I also shake the pillow when it falls off the bed before laying back under my head. Can you imagine getting stung by a scorpion on the face?!
I am going to become a follower if that is okay? We are doing a remodel on our upstairs and I love your ideas.

  27. Really only 14 comments back?!! Wow. The amount of comments I've been shelling out these days has remained the same if not more but my return is little to none, way less than before... Sigh... I guess the previous comments are right - Blogging is a winter sport.

I know what you are saying. I love to comment on new-to-me blogs and am always amazed at how few people comment back. Oh well. Still, you meet some real keepers by doing that.
Nice to meet a fellow TN.

  31. Mmm...I like this post...It is so unique!

I think I was one of the recipients of your 50 comments & I stomped my way here, liked your way of writing and left a comment or two or three. I didn't keep count.

I think I am going to share this post on my blog as I had started this thing of finding a unique post every Monday to share!
    I hope you won't mind :)

  34. Hi!
Sooo I feel like scum now! =(
In between diaper changes, running behind a 10 month old, trying not to let my home look like a bomb dropped on it (and failing!) and stopping weekly at Target (love it!!), I not only try to get onto the computer to blog and read my emails (*cough* comments *cough*), but I also try to read the blogs of those that leave me comments and that I follow.
It seems that I'm screwing things up though, because I thought that I was returning comments within a few days and I saw that you left me mine 13 days ago... *sigh*.
I want you to know though that I've read your newest posts and have been going backwards and I love your writing!! I'll be following you from now on and I'll try to be better with the comments!
(Thank you by the way for the one you left me! It was very sweet!)

  35. Isn't blogging kind of like discovering your sales ratio? How many comment does one have to make to receive one visitor. How many visitors does it take to get one comment ie the comment ratio.
Interesting distraction to keep from working. If this fails you could try garage sales:)

    ReplyDelete
  36. wow, 50 in one day, I'm really impressed, no really I am. ;) So I guess this means you'll be visiting my blog....... sweet !

  37. I love how absolutely honest this post is. I completely agree that blogging sometimes feels incredibly loney but then someone will leave you a comment and the world lights up again. :)
