Colors you need now for instant holiday glamour!

Still trying to figure out why feedburner isn't working on the new blog. Here is our latest post.
To visit the new blog
Color is such an intrinsic part of the holiday season. When fall leaves begin to change, the colors of warm cinnamon, spice, and umber envelop us with familiar things. It is no surprise that people love fall. When the warm temperatures quickly turn cool, we gravitate towards warm earthy colors that provide us comfort and bring us back to the routines that we are accustomed to. The holidays deliver to us rich traditions that remind us of joyful memories spent with our families and friends and each year our rituals begin: the decorations get unpacked, the recipe cards get pulled, holiday cards get sent and the decorating unfolds.

This year I wanted to embark on something new. As a designer I am an expert at creating stylish and updated homes, and I wanted to approach this holiday season with this same frame of mind.  I teamed up with Lori Sawaya of Color strategies to talk shop about how you can create stylish and updated holiday decorations with new colors in a way that still honors our favorite season but giving your home a fresh take on an old classic.

One of the biggest trends in fashion this fall was deep plums, with splashes of yellow. I loved this combination and wanted to sit down with one of my favorite colorist to find out why this combination works, and how we can incorporate it into our existing holiday decor for a fresh take on Christmas 2010. Listen below to my conversation with Lori Sawaya, color expert:

Colorful Friends and Colorful Conversation, by Nashville Interior designer, Amanda burdge

Today Lori Sawaya, from Color Budz, Kelly Berg, from Arte Styling and myself did a podcast on lighting, and how it effects color! I want to thank both of them for being so gracious, and allowing me to BLAB on and on about the new and exciting technology's in LED lighting.
As we transition into the next decade we are going to see a huge push in energy conservation, and recycling of materials. But what does that mean for our homes and interiors? Well with new research and development in LED lighting, we will no longer have to sacrifice quality of light to appease sustainability demands.
The lighting we have in our homes effects everything from mood, color and atmosphere. And when you are selecting a wall color, you are not just picking paint. Selecting the right color is a science, and a skillful art. Many factors come into play when selecting the right one. If you get all the components right, you have design magic. But mess it up, just one thing, and you have design disorder.
We touched on several exciting things in the world of lighting. Most importantly the way to buy a bulb. There is a lot of info on the bulb box, and trying to decipher it can be perplexing. We broke down key things to look for, terminology, and why buying smart will effect the way you purchase today so you free up your tomorrows.

Thanks again for letting me hang out with y'all today. I cannot wait to hear Lori work her magic on the editing, and as soon as it goes live, I will let all of you know!

Interview with Colorpodz by Amanda Burdge

About a week ago, Kelly Berg from Arte Styling announced that Colorpodz would now be offered on iTunes. Like the bashful, samurai designer I am, I discreetly yelled in her ear how fabulous and exciting this all was and that "I WOULD LOVE TO SIT IN WITH Y'ALL ONE DAY!!!!" With such a quiet footnote of elation I doubted that anything would come of it, and brushed it off as if I was too busy anyway....after all I'm a VERY busy person.(insert dejected sigh here)

Well yesterday, Mrs Kelly herself emailed me and said she was not the one in controlling power, and I needed to talk to the Grand Poobah, Mrs Lori Sawaya from Color Budz. So I shot Lori a quick little note saying "I WOULD LOVE TO SIT IN WITH Y'ALL ONE DAY!!!!" Poor gal must of felt bad for me because she said YES!! Hooray!

Colorpodz is a 35-45 minute podcast of 3 professionals who talk shop about color. They cover various topics, generally related to color, from color psychology to color design, and our upcoming podcast  will be on lighting and how it effects color!

Lori Sawaya

Lori, AKA Grand Poobah, host/producer/master mind, is a color strategist and principal owner of Color Strategies. She has over 20 years of experience in color, and she offers multi disciplinary guidance in an array of architectural color, color psychology, color classes, and she is a writer, and speaker.

Kelly Berg

Kelly is a wonderful Color Expert out of San Francisco, California. She has achieved numerous things in the design world from recipe development for a lifestyle company, produced projects for HGTV, set decoration and many residential and commercial projects. You can see more about how ridiculously fabulous this gal is at her web page, Arte Styling.

Rachel Perls

Rachel Perls from HUE is also a bay area color consultant, fine artist and colorpodz host. She teaches color theory, and helps select colors for your home or business.

I am so EXCITED to be amongst such wonderful talent and look forward to our discussion on one of my FAVORITE categories, lighting! We are taping on the 9th, but Lori said it takes a few weeks to edit and get it live, so I will keep you posted as the story unfolds!
